WELCOME!
December 19th, 2000

Hi and thanks for checking out our website. I’m blogging to express to you some of the philosophy and teachings of the Andrew Benne Studio. The studio is, and always will be, about the actor. The goal is to develop and mold a great actor who is a marketable commodity. Yes, commodity - an actor who knows who they are, what they are selling, and exudes authentic confidence.

I approach this through good old fashioned hard work. The classes are intensely focused; geared towards breakthroughs and the actor’s growth. Each and every class actors are vigorously tested and pushed to the next level. I believe a good acting class must be difficult and actually harder than an acting job. This makes the actor stronger, better equipped to take chances on set and able to trust their character’s instincts. An actor can only trust themselves if their own technique is solid within.

I believe it is my job to teach from the camera’s point of view. If I see it, the camera’s going to see it. I give 100 percent of myself to my students and expect my students to have a strong commitment to their work. After all, it’s the work that’s important. But, don’t get me wrong, CLASS is the place to fall down - not ON SET.

So, basically, we are a “boutique studio” with individualized training within a class ensemble. We work directly with managers and agents to help develop their clients into working actors. I also personally teach entry level 12 week Intensives because I love new actors.

The work is drawn from the teachings of Meisner, Adler, Hagen, and even some Strasberg. Some of my students says it’s the freedom of Meisner, the discipline of Adler, the detail of Hagen, and the intensity of Strasberg. I just hope I develop good actors and help them achieve their goals.

Authentic Technique means just that - authenic and the “technique” is the actor’s own. A good acting coach must have their hand on the pulse of today’s media. I know that I don’t teach like I taught 18 years ago, 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago. The media has changed and, henceforth, so does acting. That is the wonderful thing about the art of acting. It is an evolving, living, breathing thing - always changing.

So, I hope I have answered some of your questions. I love what I do. And I look forward to working with actors of all levels who choose to go the extra mile because they love acting as much as I do. If that’s you, I look forward to working with you.

Study hard. Get work.

Andrew Benne
