What is Authentic Technique?

To live truthfully in imaginary circumstances and to take action in the reality of doing. Authentic Technique means just that - it’s your technique and it belongs only to you and your own individual uniqueness and essence. No two actors are alike and the training at the Andrew Benne Studio is custom, individualized, and specific for you and your own personal breakthroughs. We develop good actors into great actors who are working actors.

What does Authentic Technique cover?
“Get out of your head and into your body.”

Raw Moments - Listening and responding, spontaneity, and true moment-to-moment connection.

Behavior Activities - The reality of doing and the importance of making actable choices.

Technique & Film Style Improvs - Realistic relationships. How to commit and behave fully in imaginary circumstances.

Emotional Preparation - How to emotionally prepare yourself for any role. How to deal in specifics and personalize. How to use your imagination fully.

Public Solitude Scenes - Physical destinations, strong sense of place, and living truthfully inside the fourth wall.

Script Analysis - Actions, beats, and character study.

Intro to Scene Work - Taking the Authentic Technique and transferring improv life into the written text.

Authentic Technique Classes: Taught by Andrew Benne

Intermediate Classes:
Taught by Irene Muzzy and are currently filled.

Professional Classes: Taught by Andrew Benne
Wednesday 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Saturday (coming soon) 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

We are currently offering specials on all of our classes to make it affordable for all to study. Classes are on-going and each class meets four times a month.

Tuition Information

Authentic Technique Classes:
1 class = $150 (4 sessions)
2 classes = $250 (8 sessions)

Professional Classes:
1 class = $225 (4 sessions)
2 classes = $325 (8 sessions)

The Professional Class may be taken with an Authentic Technique Class. Audition or professional demo reel and credits are required for entrance into the Professional Class.

We strongly recommend new students to study twice weekly. We find that actors grow much faster and start having breakthroughs more frequently.

Note: Active members of Authentic Technique Classes may sit in on any Professional Class free of charge.
